What this checker looks at

  • Contact details: email, phone and a LinkedIn or portfolio link
  • Standard section headings that ATS software recognises
  • A sensible length (about one to two pages)
  • Bullet points that start with strong action verbs
  • Measurable results with numbers
  • Writing style (no “I” and “my” in bullet points)
  • Tables and decorative symbols that can confuse ATS
  • Keyword match with the job description you paste

How applicant tracking systems read your CV

When you apply online, your CV is usually converted to plain text. The ATS then looks for your contact details, job titles, dates, skills and keywords from the job advert. Fancy layouts, text inside images, tables and unusual headings can make your CV look empty or jumbled to the software, even if it looks beautiful to a person.

That is why we recommend a clean, single-column design for online applications and a real PDF with selectable text. HayaCV’s builder creates exactly that, and its ATS check tab scores your CV while you type.
